now for my monthly update. drum roll please......

New things in the life of Kat:
  • sweet purple hoodie (aprox. this shade)
  • started in on the herb again (for my glaucoma)
  • feet seem to have grown suddenly and shoes do not fit
  • started running again. my poor lungs!
  • was "let go" from job due to scheduling conflicts. ie: i haven't any time for things that aren't related to solving fucking quadratic equations and explaining role of ligands etc. in cell communication. i am being dramatic. i actually love it.
  • my mum is moving to keene :) she is so amazing, and the strongest/ most resilient person i know.
  • am thinking of working on an organic farm in denmark for a couple of weeks in may. i have not left the country for almost a year. so that would be good.
  • doing independent study in chem this summer. huge deal that i was chosen. total shoe-in for grad school

okay i am done. love to all!

so where were the spiders....

making love with his ego,
ziggy sucked up into his mind, ahhh
like a lepar messiah....
when the kids had killed the man i had to BREAK UP THE BAND!

i have been way into David Bowie today. cranked out bad ass chem lab report, shoveled 30 feet of snow off steps, cleaned house, and updated blog all in the company of Mr. Bowie.

i had big plans tonight to take self on movie date at the colonial. they always have great films there, and the theatre is so nice and old. i like to get a mini bottle of wine and watch flick up in the balcony. during the week-days i usually have the theatre to myself. (maybe 4 or 5 others are there, but whatev.)

but alas, i am wiped out. i DO, however, have house to myself. both roomies are away. even my dog is gone for the week. maybe i will have a solo dance party....

okaaaaaaaaaaaay...kat frog is back...

back in the saddle.

what is kat up to? (and why am i talking in 3rd person?)

school. lot's of it. gravity, 3rd dimension, 4th dimension, 11th dimension! (what the fuck is the 11th dimension?) , particle accelerators, lipid bilayers, lewis dot structures, iodine isotopes, open systems, closed systems, neuron cell structures, organic vs. inorganic compounds, conservation equations, epithelial & nerve cell tissues- and telling them apart under the microscope. that is what i am up to.

and getting excited for the new growing season. making lists and diagrams. maybe ordering some honey bees if i can find the $. also just had an awesome burrito. highlight of the day for sure.

In this order...

I would like some sweet-pea shoots and a mango.

PS: There is an animal living in a box in the shed behind our house. I don't know what it is...I thought it was a black wig, but none of us own such a thing. I wonder what it is? And I wonder if it wouldn't mind bunking with several fancy chickens. Might be a recipe for disaster...or soup.

Am meeting with prof. in a few minutes to sign papers etc. I've decided to double-major in Biology & Environmental Studies. Two degrees for the price of one and 1/4!!
It's a bit more work, stress, time etc., but I think it's an excellent idea. I am nearly done with the Bio, so it's just a matter of getting caught up in the ENST.

The upside: 2 degrees, lots of independent study & intern options, doing what I love.

The downside: had to defer cali semester to catch up on prerequisite courses...that's about it. Kind of lame, but I am so busy right now that i haven't even really had time to get bummed out about delaying departure.

In other news....oh wait, I haven't got any. Except that Teniesha will be here soon!!!!!!!!!!!! But you already knew that.

if i were an animal i would be a seahorse probably...

because when you see one, you might be thinking "what is that?" or "what is it for?" well, we are a type of fish. and we are different in that we swim with our bodies perpendicular to the abyssal seafloor. we are here to remind you that there are other ways to go about your day.

ps: please send smart-kid vibes my way. i am studying like mad for my chem exam in the early morning.

R.I.P.

My hoodie is GONE. Left it at my ecology lecture apparently. Now it's GONE forever. It's totally throwing my world out of orbit. I remember the day we met....

I was in San Diego with Teniesha waiting for a bus. We were on our way to see scary punk kids play music and scream about ending civilization. Anyway, we were cold and stopped at mall to buy cheap hoodies. At the time, it seemed like nothing. Just your basic black zip-up. Little did I know that it would become the keystone that kept my daily life from crashing into a pile.

I've given up hope that it will return to me like it has in the past. (It's been left behind in 4 different bars in a single nite and made it's way home via friends & small miracles.)

Hoodie, if you're out there, and you read this, please know that our time together was well spent. You weren't just a hoodie. You were a friend. And on occasion, a pillow. Above all you were a great comfort to me. Thank you.

Love,
KAT

Tell me something good...

High point of today:
Having tea with friend while taking a break from studying at a local coffee shop, and listening to the rain hit the pavement just outside the door.
And you?

photo essay in no particular order:

Kat, Em, Sarah, Meave, Liam, Raven, Marc, Shauna, Lyric, Rafeal, Victoria, and the fab band The Lowlands. Good times on a river in Pennsylvania. Summer is winding down. (But i am still growing lettuce.) Hiking solo up Monadnock Mountain tomorrow. Then off to open house at a friends farm in Vermont this weekend. Live music and good food under the stars. Sounds fab. Hopefully there will be fancy chickens all over the place!

Hola, I've been thinking about super-powers a bit today, and i would def want to be a shape-shifter. I mean, that sort of covers a lot of bases, dont' you think? Anways, yay for summer. Love Kat!

6.30.2007

i just realized that i might be drunk still from yesterday. hmm.....anyways, i just got some delicious looking garlic scapes at the farmer's market. i think i will make galic scape quiche & maybe some pesto. i dunno. also purchased a tray of butterfly bush which will sprout orange flowers that smell like passion fruit. now i need dirt for pots since there is no longer any room in garden patch.
okay i need water and nap.

oh summer please slow down a little...

Today I started my new schedule. ugh. i hate having a schedule, so i'll try to make it interesting. SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME
  • wake up at ass-crack of dawn, drink tea, pack lunch, drive 25 minutes to farm while listening to Nick Hornby's "A Long Way Down" book-on-cd...light entertainment while I drink 2nd cup of tea on the road.
  • work in field planting, weeding, sweating in hot sun.
  • watch kestral hawks dive-bomb mice in the field while i drink tea (iced this time) and eat lunch.
  • let the ladies out (fancy chickens), collect eggs, check on pregnant goat. hmm...still no kid
  • space-out for a minute
  • apply sunblock and head back to field stomping my feet a bit to ward off any snakes. (not sure it actually works, but i feel better knowing it might)
  • finish up whatever i'm doing and drive back to house to either shower or eat. i can't do both unless i have a popcicle, in which case i would have to eat it FAST
  • bike or drive to class (applied algebra & trig) yikes. i should have taken this TEN OR MORE YEARS AGO in high school so it would be a little easier now. it's a little painful to point out that it's not even required for my degree. i am taking this $800 class in order to pass ONE exam that i need to take to attend my 2nd year chem & physics class which i am already registered for
  • come home, spend 3 hours doing homework
  • open wine, and water veg garden, pat dog,
  • check emails and whatnot, update you monkeys, have a little more wine
  • realize i am starting to get drunk off said wine
  • have a little more wine
  • fall asleep watching nova or american experience which was repeat from last nite
  • wake up to asshole neighbor with broken exhaust pipe driving past house
  • pat dog and look around bedroom. spaceout. make tea...........

Love KAT!

6.21.2007

saw this sign posted in someone's driveway in italy....

Anyway, here I am. I have been planting loads of vegetables this week. I have dirt embedded in my fingerprints that won't wash away, and my ass crack is sunburned cuz my shorts are a bit big and fall off some. A thunderstorm is rolling in as I write this. Wahooooooo! Happy first day of summer!
Ok, I am going to drink tea and listen to radiohead.

Here is a not so recent pic of thee garden patch. You should see it now!!!

Hola. I have been meaning to put some miles on the old schwinn cruiser this weekend, but i am constantly distracted by some other type of fun summer activity. Like making GIANT soap bubbles. And parking lot wiffle ball.
I am on a vacation of sorts until Thursday. That's when i start my part time summer jobs. One is at an organic veg farm & inn. I will cook and do the gardening. The other job is checking boats for invasive plant species at highland lake in stoddard. Mostly it involves sitting in a lawn chair, sipping iced-T and reading Carl Sagan books.
I can't decide whether to use initital CAPS or ALL lowercase LETTERS.
LOVE KAT!

"the water's a bit sharky..."

hola. i am back. how about a few highlights to sum it up?
  • bit on the leg within hours of my arrival to the island. not sure what it was. something small and aquatic. i still have 3 welts on leg.
  • swam with sharks at 90 ft. below the surface!
  • got my SCUBA license (how do you spell that?)
  • totally dorked out on biology related conversations over breakfast with professor and talked about setting me up with an animal behavior research project using anoles lizards
  • sailed around west indies wearing an eyepatch, waving a pirate flag, and drinking loads of rum
  • hung out with wild iguanas on a desert island. they were big. like dinosaur big.
  • plus other stuff i prob shouldn't post haha

sometimes life is good, and sometimes life is fucking spectacular.

Hi. Just finished finals...one year down. I don't have much to say, just the same old shit, like: I have been studying blalhlahlahlha. But now that is more or less done for a bit. I am leaving tomorrow for the west indies. It's the final lab for my tropical marine biology class. I am psyched for that, plus I'll finish my scuba certification. Okay i need to pack. After I go visit your blog.
